In an activity held in UIR, I met a friend from George Washington University. His name is Jeremiah. After having several interesting long conversations, I invited him to write something for the official account. I e-mailed him several questions which I am really curious about. What's your first thought when I say the word "dragon"? Have you ever heard of the word " loong"? Does “dragon” have some kind of meanings like “evil things”?（当我说“dragon”这个词时，你的第一个想法是什么？你听说过“loong”这个词吗？“dragon”有没有像“邪恶的东西”一样的含义？）

A（答）

Dragon: an ancient creature that no longer exists. I have not heard of the word "loong," but after looking it up, I am familiar with it what it is. During my undergrad studies, I was actually the head part of a loong for a ceremony. It was made at home, and I doubt it looked very good!（dragon：一种已不存在的古老生物。我没有听说过“loong”这个词，但查了一下，我就知道它是什么了。在我读本科的时候，我实际上是一个仪式的 loong 的头部。它是在家里做的，我怀疑它看起来是否很好！）

　　【黄佶评论：看来耶利米把杜拉根兽（dragon）理解为恐龙了。外国人对两者的区分的确不是很严格，一些时政漫画会把杜拉根兽画成恐龙。杜拉根兽实际上是神话虚构动物，dragon 也常指一些蜥蜴，它们至今仍然存在，没有灭绝。他虽然不认识音译新词 loong，但是他查了一下就知道含义了，而且立即开始使用这个词了。所以，很多专家教授担心外国人不认识、不会使用 loong，是没有必要的。他说的“仪式上用的 loong”应该是指庆祝活动中使用的舞龙道具。】
