意大利汉学家 Marco Meccarelli 把龙称为 Long

　　很多中国人担心外国人看不懂音译的中国文化词，于是勉强意译。但是外国人担心的是错误理解文本的含义。2021年，意大利汉学家马可（Marco Meccarelli）发表了一篇关于中国龙的论文。他没有把龙直接译为 dragon，而是使用了三种方法，竭力把龙和杜拉根兽区分开来：long（斜体字），龍（繁体汉字），Chinese dragon（当前常用的译法）。

　　在论文正文里，他也频繁使用了 long。他还介绍了译龙为 loong 和 liong 等建议。

　　作者在结论部分说：

After the 1980s, the world started addressing the challenges posed by economic globalization, and the protection of cultural diversity became a widely discussed topic. Chinese scholars reflected on the past, and many of them started focusing on the distinction between the long (Chinese dragon) and the dragons venerated by other cultures. The essence of the debate is the need to talk about the Chinese dragon by avoiding misunderstandings and demystifications. The terms "long," "loong," and "liong," which define the Chinese mythical creature, instead of the English word "dragon," not only distinguish between the Chinese and Western representations of this creature but also offer a new understanding of the Chinese long and Chinese culture. This new perspective enables one to connect various theories on the origin of the Chinese dragon and the contemporary identity discourse in China.（二十世纪八十年代后，世界开始应对经济全球化带来的挑战，保护文化多样性成为一个广泛讨论的话题。中国学者反思了过去，他们中的许多人开始关注龙和其它文化所崇拜的“龙”之间的区别。辩论的本质是需要通过避免误解和揭开神秘面纱来谈论中国龙。定义龙这一中国神话生物的术语“long”、“loong”和“liong”，而不是英文单词“dragon”，不仅区分了这种生物的中西表达，而且为中国龙和中国文化提供了新的理解。这种新的视角使人们能够将关于中国龙起源的各种理论与中国当代身份话语联系起来。）

　　由此可见，在外国人眼里，改译龙不仅可以避免文化误解，还是一个审视中国文化的新视角。这足以说明，他们看见 dragon 或即使是看见 Chinese dragon，他们还是会想到欧美文化中的东西，而 long 和 loong 等新词，使他们看见了一个崭新的新事物。

　　2005年获得罗马萨皮恩扎大学东方考古学第二专业学院的奖学金（他在中国获得了研究资助，在那里他能够参观主要城市和古代和现代艺术的主要博物馆。 他参与了一项有关二十世纪中国文化和艺术转型的国家研究项目。）

　　2010年获得了东亚历史与文明博士学位。

　　2016年他与来自世界各地的三十一位汉学家一起被选为参加由中国文化部组织和推广的“青年汉学家研修计划 2016 年青年汉学家访问计划（VPYS）”的成员部和中国社会科学院（CASS）中国社会科学院。

　　除了授课外，他还通过 VersOriente 文化协会（2003年至2011年）参与了大量活动（活动，课程，书籍介绍，导游，旨在传播东方和远东文明知识的附带活动），他是该公司的总裁以及 VersOriente srl 公司（从2007年至2011年）的合伙人之一。与 Archeo, Art and Dossier，文明，Kings and Queens 和 Medieovo Misterioso 杂志合作。他是《中国摄影史》第一版意大利版的合著者。
